I am so extremely blessed to still have both of my grandma's and the time that I get to spend with them, and the time my kids get to spend with them is invaluable. It fills my heart and my soul with so much joy, and I will always cherish these memories.
This week we got to spend the week with my dad's mom. It is was such special time - we drank tea (and lots of eat), she told me lots of stories of her young days, and we made food. She is famous for her vetkoek, and she taught me all her ways.
She took the time to teach Hayleigh to knit and Ian to crochet. It only lasted for a couple of days - but I love watching her patiently showing them the ropes, and so gently nudging them into the right direction.
If you are looking for ouma you would most likely find her knitting away in her chair, with a cup of rooibos tea, and a book on her lap. She can do all this at once. Oh, and don't forget her sweet companion by her side.
My grandma took the time to teach me how to make her epic vetkoek, I have the fondest memories of going over to her house on a Sunday, we would enter through the kitchen, and smell a fresh batch of these beauties - we would stop right there - eat our fill before proceeding to the living room.
It was such a joy to be in the kitchen with her.
We spend some time outside soaking up the sunny days, swimming, and eating ice-cream (while ouma took her naps.)
and we went ahead and updated our pictures with ouma.
It was such a fabulous week, and I am always so emotional when she leaves, because the reality is that is very likely to be the last time that we get to see her face to face and spend time with her. At the end of these trips, I am emotionally tired (the crappy part of living far away from family.)
Like I said I am extremely grateful that I still have the ability to make these memories, and to share snippets of our lives with her - even if it is just for a week.

The whole has ended up with some vicious cold as well, so we have been taking it easy. Adventures have been put on the back seat so we can nurture our health, to make sure we are ready for adventure with Nate when he joins us in a couple of weeks.

Happy Monday!
