Nate and I attended the Fire Awards Banquet (without kids - say what?) I think this was the first time we have ever attended something like this in and out of the military. We normally didn't have a babysitter, or honestly just didn't care to go, but for this we needed to go. I will go ahead and say "Go Nate" I am so super proud of my man, I can hardly contain myself!
After a year of hard work in a new department, in a new area, out of the military, with lots of changes - he did it - rookie of year right there!! He is to humble to really accept it or feel deserving. But I know he worked so hard!!! The kids and I are so proud of you!!!

The next day the kids and I went on a little adventure - it has been a while since I have taken them out all by myself (I use to do it all the time - but then Nate's schedule changed and with him being home more then half of the month - well I became spoiled) - we went on a little home school field trip with some friends (so I guess I wasn't totally on my own.)
We visited the Childhood House of former president George W. Bush. It was surprisingly neat, and we had fun. Our tour kid was so sweet and so patient with a bunch of little ones.
The Bush family moved to this house in 1948 when George was five years old (Ian thought this was great, only because he is 5) - they lived here for several years.
Nowhere outside the United States (other than the White House) have so many prominent political figures lived in one home - two presidents, two governors, first lady, ambassador, CIA director, and much more.
All I can say is I love the house, and I would totally move in right now if I could, they did a great job restoring the house back to the 1950's. Nate makes fun of me all time - because I love the 50's!
The fact that the Bush family had a dog, really intrigued Ian.
The living area.
The playroom, and the nursery for Jeb.

The kitchen. Oh, I am so in love!!!

Lazy Susan shelves - yes please! |
The phone in the hallway!! Hayleigh (the talker) loved this so much! I think only because she was allowed to touch it!
This is the former President's room. It was pretty cool, and once again Ian was impressed because there was a train track!! They are so easy to please!
The bathroom.
The closet was also a hit! Meet Selah, Hayleigh's little friend from church!
It was such a fun morning of getting out of the house (even though it was such a busy week) and the plus? Ian actually learned something and has retained it - wahoo!!!

The spend the rest of the weekend doing as least as possible.
Lego building, while Nate and I lay in bed a little longer. I won't lie, I though this day would never come, I only take advantage of it on the weekends, and when Nate is home!
Crepes for breakfast!
Tea and coloring!

Hawaiian chocolate goodness! Thanks Natasha!
Homemade tortillas - if at all possible, I will never eat the store kind again!!
Rice pudding for an evening snack. I used this recipe.
And the cutest little picture that Ian drew. Oh my heart can't stand the cuteness. I am so smitten!
A little reminder of a sweet friend - all the way from Japan and I love having it on my desk so I can see it every day - that I miss so much!! I can't wait till you move back to Texas Monica!!
And in anticipation of Spring and all the prettiness that comes with it - flowers make everything better!!
Happy Monday!
