On The Mend & The Living Room

It has been a rough week here in the Cook house.  The littlest of the Cooks have been feverish and sick for a few days, and thank goodness we are over it.

It all stared on Wednesday, we were ready to leave the house by time not got home from work, since he had an appointment to go to, and we needed groceries.  As soon as we got to the end of our little town, sister starting throwing up, and that was it.  We turned around come home, bathed her, and I spend the rest of the day snuggling a sick baby girl, while the boys ran all the errands.

She spiked a fever, didn't want to eat or drink anything, and my heart broke.  I hate it when my kids are sick or not feeling good (thank goodness it is only so often) but I didn't know what to do to make her feel better besides hold her and kiss he warm brow.

This went on for the next several days.  We didn't sleep much at night, she cried and wanted to be held all day,the house turned into somewhat of a mess (but today we will pick up the pieces) but luckily we had a few moments were she would venture off to build a puzzle and then come crawl back in my lap to receive more loving.  She also loved sitting on the balcony in the sunshine. I am very happy to say we are all better now, and back to normal.

We also received this months Citrus Lane boxes arrived at the perfect time. It had two purposes, cheering up a sick little girl and entertaining a almost four year old, who had a hard time not having his play buddy.  I love Citrus Lane, all though I graduated Ian to Kiwi Crate starting next months, since I feel he will be able to do all the activities and hands on projects.  I am so excited for our first box.

Daddy helped supervise them while they created a pirate collage, and then of course Nate had to tell them stories with the collage.  Lucky for him, he has great pirate voice.  They loved it, and it managed to cheer everybody up for a little while.

Since Hayleigh was doing so much better, no longer had a fever and was eating and drinking again.  Well she was completely back to her normal self.  Nate suggested that I take the day off and have a mama day.  This usually entails me going to a coffee shop and catching up on the kids photo books in peace while sipping on hot chocolate or tea and some yummy bakery treat.  This time I had a voucher to go to the spa as well, and man was it amazing.  My hands and feet weer in desperate need of some treatment.  Never minds that, after a sick baby I just needed to be by myself to collect myself, recover from not sleeping and just soak in some me time.  It also makes for a great time of reflection, and learning from situations and how I sometimes response.  There is always time for improvement.

I had a great, but I missed my  babies, and I wondered what they were up to with daddy.  Nate is so awesome and such a sweet dad.  Always involved and always fun.  He even took some pictures for me to see their adventure.  I wasn't there to witness everything in real life so I can't tell stories but I think these pictures are beautiful and tells the story perfectly.  Photo credit to Nate.

In addition to a whole day to myself, I got home to a husband wanting to cook dinner, some homemade cards, and hand picked wild flowers.  Yes, my sweet kids helped daddy pick wild flowers on their walk back home, and arranged them in a vase and everything.

Once I walked in the door, Ian took me by hand, told me to close my eyes and lead me to the dining room. When I was finally allow to open my eyes, it took my breath away.  Both kids jumped in all at once and told me about their awesome adventure.  Ian just sees the beauty in everything, including these weeds, to him (well and to me for that matter) they are beautiful flowers.  I hope he always keeps that quality.

They even took this picture for me.

I am excited to share the living room.  You can also call it the playroom if that suites you. I love our living room, it is spacious, open, light, and homey.  I love all of the above and everything in one is a bonus.  Our bedrooms are upstairs and the kids don't want to play up their alone, and  they also have this terrible habit to play on our super steep stairs, that we have to have some toys downstairs.  It doesn't bother me, since we have system to contain it all, when needed, everything has place to be put away, and once they go down for a nap or bed, the living room feels and look like a grown up area.

We spent most of our time in this room, so I wanted it to be nice, homey, and comfy.  We stain most of the shelves to give everything some character, the kids and I made some of the wall decoartions, we have a ton of pictures up, and I made the toy boxes and the kids table and chairs.  Sometimes you have to be creative and willing to save money, and have character in your home.

Stain the table, and used fabric, modge podge and clear paint to make to fun.

Little magazines for little people.  A must for rainy days.

Office and craft area,  Baby gate is to keep Hayleigh our of my stuff!! I had to get creative.

I love that all the toys are concealed in these baskets.  Not that we have a ton of toys, but still.

Some of my favourite children's books.

Kids "school" area.

My mother-in-law gave me the top frame the day before my wedding.

My angels gifts from the kids {birthdays, mother's days, Christmases, births) Sonogram pics of the kids.}

My friend Charlotte drew this picture of the kids for us.  I love it!!

Toy boxes.

Reading corner.  I made the chair cover.

It has taken me some time to finish this post, and I spoke to soon, my sweet Ian now has what his sister had, with a nice high fever and all.  Looks like Thomas the Train and lots of snuggles are in order.

With that being said.

Happy Saturday!!
