Our Weekend = Not Quiet What We Planned

We had our K-day this last Monday, and that meant three days home with Nate.  I was so excited to get some more projects and spring cleaning done, and everything went according to plan until...

Well I found his antique high chair, made of solid oak wood and dating back to a 100 years old, and I decided that I needed said chair. So on Monday we set off on a family adventure to an antique store about an hour from our house.  Everything went according to plan, we had a beautiful drive, the kids took their naps in the car, and Nate and I were about our new trip next month, we are planning on taking a Mediterranean cruise to Greece.

We made to Angela's Antiques, the very lovely and nice lady met us at the door, she was expecting us, she interacted with the kids offered us coffee and tea, and cookies for the kids, and unleashed us in her huge store full of interesting antiques.  We saw a bunch of fun stuff but decided realistically we won't use them and we don't really have room for a lot of displays/  We also decided against the high chair, since Hayleigh didn't really care much for it, well and it was kind of unstable, I mean it is a hundred years old.  So we left the store with two hundred year old milk buckets that we can put flowers in.

It was such a gorgeous day we decided to make our trip worth while, and treat the kids with some ice-cream.  I love Italian ice cream stores, and gelato is the best.  Angela recommended a place down the street, so off we went.  We had a blast, the kids were so funny and entertaining the the gelato was delicious.

We decided to head home to cook dinner, and have date night.  It was Monday after all.  Everyone was just hanging out in the car talking, when all of a sudden we heard "clunk" followed by ppppppff, and then the car lost power, and came to a halt right on the autobahn.  Great.  Here is were nothing went as planned.

So Nate gets out of the car and gets the emergency triangle that we have to place 90 meters behind us for warn other cars.  I am sitting in the car with the kids, somewhat annoyed when I noticed something looking a lot like smoke coming out of the hood of the car.  Well let's just say that I have never gotten my kids out of a car that fast in my life, I  made a new record.  Nate returns and we scramble to get the fire extinguisher of the back of the car (well yes, I married to a fire fighter,] but here is the funny thing.... so Nate looks at me, I have Hayleigh on my back in the carrier, and I am holding Ian on my fort, anyways so Nate says "you need to look right here and when you see flame put it our, I need to make a phone call," seriously you are the fire fighter. At least it made us laugh.  We did have to pour some water on the car but nothing crazy.

The rest of our afternoon will take up a whole page and I will probably just get annoyed with all the ridiculousness.  But in short, we got towed off of the autobahn, dumped at some dodgy joint where no one really speaks English, taken to the wrong village (because apparently they knew were we live, uhm I don't think so], get home in a taxi driven by grandma, see our lives flash before our eyes a couple of times, and we made it home five hours later (when we were only 30 minutes away from home), laving my car in the middle of nowhere.

We are luckily all ok, we made it home, my car was finally towed to the right location, and we are still waiting to hear on the damages.  This is not how planned to spend Nate's day off.

I am still annoyed though, because EVERY TIME we save money for something or plan a trip our cars break on us, seriously, I am not even joking.

The rest of our days were pretty enjoyable.  The kids are in this phase of intense learning and they soak up everything in minutes and retain it like crazy.  We started to learn the phonetics of the alphabet and they loved it.  Thank you Dr Suess for making it fun.

Sister can successfully build these little puzzles all by herself.  I am so proud of her, and of Ian for teaching her and showing her how to do stuff.  I love love love watching them work things out.

Other things we enjoyed these past few days, oven roasted chick peas, carrot soups, homemade muffins, and dried chili's from last years plants.  I have to say the carrot soup was pretty awesome, and the recipe will follow soon.

Hopefully we will have a better week this week, and get more projects done. Also I need to take more pictures!!!

Happy Wednesday!
