Our Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving was more then a week ago and this the first time that I have had a legit moment to sit down and write something - it seemed that time just totally got away from me.

This is the first Thanksgiving in a while that Nate was off and the actual day.  A couple of years ago we did an early Thanksgiving since he had to work, and last year the kids and I were in South Africa.

This year we just did a large Thanksgiving get together with Nate's dad's side of the family.  I love that didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn to place a turkey in the oven, and to rotate the bird every so often, while silently freaking out - what if this is a total disaster?  It was a large get together, so it made me miss the intimacy of having a gorgeous meal around a kitchen table.

We had a super chill morning, and it was quiet lovely to be able to sit around on the couch and sip on coffee, hanging out while the kids played.

We made our tradition pumpkin waffles for breakfast - always a hit.  The kids also look forward to this recipe as soon as fall hits, but I only make it for Thanksgiving.

I also love to dress up the table, so I had to get my fix with our breakfast.

My camera pretty much stayed in my bag the entire time, because I was overwhelmed with the amount of people around.  There were like fifty people, and well I am not the best at crowds.

We spend the rest of the late afternoon and evening at Nate's parents house, just hanging out.

We did remember to snap a little family shot once we got home to change into comfy clothes, and drop off some food.

This Thanksgiving made me miss our military friends so much - one of my favorite Thanksgivings was this one.  I loved how how homey and simple it was - back when I loved having people over and everything didn't seem so daunting and dramatic.

I am hoping this feeling will change soon, maybe with the new year?

Needless to say, I do have so much to be thankful for - with my little family of four on the top of the list.  This year we have circled back to some of our roots - and I have to say it feels so good.

We spend the rest of the weekend finishing up Christmas shopping, watching corn Christmas movies, and getting all the Christmas decorations out of the attic.

While of course eating left over pie, sipping on more apple cider, and making pumpkin bread for the last time.

Happy late Thanksgiving, from my family to yours.
