Celebration Trip: Science Spectrum & Apple Orchard

It has been one week since our little trip last week, and this is the first time that I have had a minute to sit down and sift through the pictures.

So much has happened in the last week - first off we ended up buying a new car on our way out of town.  We have been a one car family for almost five years - it worked at first but has become more challenging over the last couple of years.  The kids and I are so excited! Can someone say road trip!

We have also stated another house project (one of my favorite things to get excited about) and we started second grade with Ian, and Kindy with Hayleigh.

The plane tickets to go to South Africa next year have been bought, and I a little added bonus is that the kids and I get to make a little pit-stop in Georgia to see my best girlfriend in the world! We haven't been able to see each other in like five years - every single time we have made a plan something happened and we had to re-evaluate.  Not this time!

At this moment life is pretty exciting.

Back to our trip.

The week before last week we finished up the first grade with Ian - and he did such a fantastic job - I couldn't be more proud.

We decided to take the week after off, and take a little lighting fast overnight trip to a near by town to celebrate.  Taking leave have been hard this year since Nate started another job, and well we all know you can't just take leave all the time with a new job.

It all worked out to where he was able to take one day off so we could do something special with the kids.

I am so grateful that they are still little, and that a non-extravagant trip 2 hours away, and staying overnight in a hotel, is the coolest thing ever.

We started out with the Science Spectrum, and it was seriously fantastic.  I am so impressed, because everything around here seem to be semi-sucky (we are just spoiled) and we are already checking for a date on the calendar to return for the day.

I was a little skeptical at first, but you can seriously spend the WHOLE day here, it is inexpensive, it is clean, and there is so so so much learning opportunities and resources.

I have to admit my kids were a little overstimulated at first because there is just so much to chose from, that it can get a little overwhelming, but after we assured them that we will have plenty of time for everything they were a slight bit calmer.

We spent most of our day here.

We seriously had so much fun.  I did a bunch of insta-stories while we were there because it was just a blast.  If you aren't on instagram, get on there ;)

There are so many different sections, three three levels to be exact.

Nate's inner kid came out as well.

They had this sweet little animal show in the basement of the science spectrum.  Basically they brought out three reptiles, and told the kids all about them, it was way cool.  One of the reptiles was the same snake that Nate caught a couple of weeks ago, and brought home in a box (you can read more about that here,) since never saw that original snake it was fun to see one in real life and actually learn about it.

Hayleigh's favorite part - BUBBLES!

We had lunch and dinner at our favorite little diner restaurant  - we always look forward to the food when we go on trips.

And we lived on the wild side, we stayed out late on a week night, and took the kids to the movies.  I have been begging Ian to go to the movies with for years now, and refused, thanks to the Maleficent preview a couple of years ago.  It took me months and month of slowly coaxing him and reassuring him that we can leave it he just hates it.

I am glad to report that we didn't have to leave, he loved it, and we might have just created a new money hole for ourselves - ha!

We also went to the apple orchard before heading home.

We went a couple of years ago and it was so much fun.

The owners and the employees are super nice, and love to share everything about the orchard.  I always love learning about anything food related.

Unfortunately we were a little late in the season this year, so we didn't get a nice variety, but we got enough of what was avaible to make an apple pie.

Melts me.

It was the perfect little get-away to prepare for a new school year, and all the excitements of fall.

I am looking forward to doing a little bit more adventurous over the next couple months.

Happy Wednesday!
