The kids and I went on our monthly little field trip with the local homeschool group, and it was really awesome.
We went to a ranch (South African friends, it's a farm) that is really old, and they have Native American painting in a cave setting.
It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm, with a breeze, and the surrounding was so beautiful, it looked so different from everyday life here in West Texas.
The kids loved it - they are always so game for little trips, and they love to travel.
We had to maneuver down a steep incline, and climb down over rocks and boulders to reach the spot. We saw some beautiful flowers and plants all around - Hayleigh was in total awe - she is my flower girl.
We came to the spot were mrs Alice explained some of the paintings to us, and have us a brief history lesson. It was way cool.
There were a bunch of proof about the Native American lifestyle, and the have also dug up some stuff. One of the things I thought was pretty cool are these holes craved in the rocks, that they used to crush herbs, and so on into fine powder. All the kids loved playing in it as well.
I personally have never seen anything like this, so I thought it was pretty cool. We spent all day there, exploring the beauty of nature, hanging out, and learning all about Texas, and what ranchers do.
My flower girl, was so excited, we had to pick flowers at every spot we would find ourselves. It makes me happy, I am a flower girl at heart as well.
Rock gathering is another thing they love and they are good at. According to Hayleigh this is "sandscreen" - and she was heartbroken to leave it behind.
A lot of the scenery reminded me so much of my oupa's farm. It has it's own kind of beauty even when it is ugly.
It was so much fun, and such a neat experience. It has somewhat awakened my adventurous spirit again, and I am starting to get more and more excited of all the travel possibilities we might find ourselves in.
Especially as spring and summer are coming into full swing.
Happy Saturday!
