We had a great New Years Eve. We veered away from our forever long little tradition of fancy finger foods, and movies to spend the night with some friends and in the process we made some new friends (well I guess right now, it's acquaintances) who are also from South Africa - so actually I think that makes us friends by default :)
It was fun evening. The kids had so much fun, running and playing - an being crazy. I have to give it to Tineke - she is dutch, and it is true - dutch moms are the coolest and most relaxed moms in the world. My frantic self was in total awe of this superpower she seems to mange so easily - I am impressed.
I quickly fell in love with the evening, and the easy going atmosphere. I also won't deny that they fact that I was able to speak Afrikaans to people face to face in the middle of West Texas was something beautiful to say the least.
Another bonus - South African food (and Dutch dessert) - nothing better then South African company and food all together mix together.
It was kind of the perfect ending to a really difficult year. It was just what I needed to kick start the new year - and to come to the realization and acceptance - this is is where our roots will start to sprout - so embrace it and bloom.
This is pretty much the only picture that I got - it was super late (way past our bed time) we were tired, it was cold, and the picture is really crappy quality - but I love it, a spontaneous and purposeful moment right here....
