We decided to follow the natural trail all the way to the natural entrance and to descent into the cave that way.
It is a 1 /14 mile (2km) hike all the way down to the big room. Ian was a champ and he walked the entire way.
The pictures doesn't do the caves justice. I tried my best.

My cave buddy. |
It took us a couple of hours to explore the oven section of the cave, and it was so worth it. We decided an ice-cream break wasn't a bad idea - and the kids of course was thrilled.
We returned later that evening to see the bats emerge from the cave, and all I can say is wow. It was so amazing - I have never seen anything like it. It is amazing that the moment it turns to dusk - they come out in swarms and they just keep coming out.
We weren't allowed to take pictures of the actual event - but do yourself a favor and google it!
Oh, and we found a relative of Hiro - our black tarantula friend.
We were all exhausted from a long day of lots of walking, and staying up till after sunset. We also decided to visit the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens.
I loved it here. It was so fascinating and interesting and extremely kid friendly. I loved how they had a please touch me section, with everything that pertained to the Chihuahuan Desert - from antlers to snake skins, to rocks. There was also a little sand section where you could make the footprints of various animals. It was so fun.
The layout was way cool, it was sectioned of with lots of information about the different desert areas. You followed the path walking through the desert, while viewing and seeing animals from the area.
I would highly recommend this place for anyone with kids.

We had so much fun, even though it was so incredibly hot, and we were exhausted from all the walking.
I am so happy we are getting settled and that slowly but surely we are starting to travel a little more, and explore a little more. I have so missed that since leaving Germany.
We had a blast with my parents and I am so happy we were able to show them something cool around here, since living literally in the middle of nowhere makes that really challenging.
We have hit the middle mark for the time with my parents, and my heart is breaking a little already. I can't wait for them to retire :)
We will soak up the remaining time, and definitely make the best out of it - cherishing every single minute!
Happy Friday!
