We haven't celebrated a Fourth of July in the states since 2007. We did attempt to go to the little town celebration at the park, but to be honest we have no idea what to do, or how to act. So we got some snow cones, and retreated into a shaded spot, people watching....
Of course we had to take colored face pictures after eating this deliciousness.
and then we left.....
On our way home we decided that we should get some sparklers for the kids - we have never done that before, so we drove all the way to the edge of town, to one of those dodgy (well in my books it is dodgy) firework stands to get some sparklers.
Another random turn, and we discovered this huge and giant life size American flag, and of course we had to take some pictures.
We spent the rest of the day with friends, comfy at home, chatting away, eating delicious food, the kids played beautifully, and just enjoying the company.
Before we knew it bed time passed by, and it was starting to get dark....
The kids loved it!
Though I am not an American citizen (gasp) my kids are (actually they have dual citizenship) and so it is important to me that they know the history of both sides for their heritage.
I am still learning and discovering so much, so we learn together. And I am happy to say that the kids can recognize the American flag, and said happy birthday America when we cut the cake :)
Happy Independence Day!
