We visited so many beautiful places, experienced so many different cultures, and learned how to blend and adapt, drawing minimum attention to our family. It was wonderful to just get in the car drive thirty minutes and cross the border into France.
I have always realized that Andrews is located in the middle of nowhere, but never realized the intensity. Once we moved here, I immediately started to feel trapped, cut off from lots of things that we so enjoyed doing.
We also just bought a house, and have (and yes we are still renovating) the house, we have spend endless hours working to get settled in, with that time is an issue, so we have put most of travel desires on hold.
But we decided around our anniversary that we should just go somewhere even if we have to drive a little while. Nate had some time off and we heard about a little German town about four hours from here, and that was our plan, but unfortunately we had to change our plans, due to what I at times feel like inappropriate interference (welcome to the small town life) - we settled for something else. We are still learning how to adjust to all of these things.
The moment we loaded the car, we were all so relieved and excited to get away for a little while, even just three days, can do wonders.
We decided to go camping in a yurt, and then explore things in the surrounding areas.
It was beautiful. serene, and peaceful. There were almost no one else in the park, we spend hours in the afternoon hanging out, cooking dinner on the fire, talking, playing games, examining the park map, stacking rocks, watching insects, and eating smores.
We explored lost of different places during the day.
My kids love animals, and one of their favorite things to watch is nature shows (my mom will be so proud) they have been begging us to go to the zoo, so we did.
It was the perfect size for them, and we had so much fun just walking around naming animals, talking, laughing, and they cried a few times (I am just being real.)
The little zoo train was a huge hit for my train loving kids.
We explored the rest of the zoo, and the kids were amazed at lots of the animals, it made my heart so happy. I am a sucker for stuff like that.

We can finally pull her hair up just a little bit! |

The kids favourites were the baby camels and the rhino.
We also went to visit the Buffalo Gap Historic Village - tucked away in the Buffola Gap - population 463. That is my worst nightmare - just saying.
It was fun to just see all the old stuff, the antiques, and how they use to live from day to day. I love this kind of stuff.
Sadly my camera battery died, so I had to snap the last pictures on my phone.
The kids loved the fact that they could listen to the as I like to call him "cowboy man" on the radio - telling the story as you type in the different numbers as labeled on the items.

She didn't want to smile. |
Sadly I missed pictures of the inside of the post office, the bank, and the church.
This little town, though my worst nightmare would be live in such a small town (thank goodness Andrews is not quiet that small) I loved how cute it was. Everything was tidy, beautiful gardens, and it was so colorful.
I decided to divide this post in two, as I am a picture junkie and I didn't realize just how many pictures I had taken.
Stay tuned for the second part - and my favourite part of our little get-a-away!
Happy Sunday!
