Anyways it has been freezing all week, so on Saturday when we realized it was suppose to be sunny and warm out, we decided we need to talk advantage of it, and get out of the house. We are constantly told that is sucks here, and there is nothing to do here, it is so ugly and blah blah blah. I am really getting fed up with this recital of words, it is kind of irritating. I am not stupid or irrational, I did do some research before we moved here.
This Saturday I was determined to find something amazing on short notice, and it turned out perfect. Well hello little hidden gem, called I-20 Nature Preserve. You saved the day and delivered a beautiful, fun, and happy afternoon for the Cook family.
This little Nature Preserve is run solemnly by volunteers. I have to say have to say I was pretty impressed by the up-keeping as well as the extensive list of wild life. They had my soul attention at bobcat. Since it is Winter time, we didn't see a ton of the animals listed because most of the birds migrated, reptiles are probably hibernating since the temperatures dropped significantly, and the smaller mammals probably hurried away at the sound of the little people. They can't be quiet walking outside to save their lives.
We could barely wait to start our walking adventure and to soak up one afternoon of sunshine and warmth. The surroundings delivered, and it is so beautiful out there, you just have to get past all the road noise of I-20.
We spend several hours there, admiring the trees (it is so rare here - unless you go and visit Mrs Kim), looking for little critters, talking, laughing, and soaking in the goodness of much needed family time.
There were barely any people, so Nate and I walked a little behind the kids, and just watched them, I have to say that they are so sweet, and most of the time (not all of the time) but most of the time they do melt y heart with they gentleness and sweetness towards each other, They truly are best little friends, and I do love how they encourage and support each other. I am a proud mama.
We might not have seen a ton of mammals but little bug and insects were all over the place, and responsible for lots and lots of excitement.
Little treasures like sticks, feathers, and pine cones also satisfied our needs to discover and explore,
We spend the remainder of our walk admiring the distinct change from fall to winter and the beauty that accompanied it. God is so good.
Spot the bunny!
Also hello bobcat - we will come back and find you!
These wooden bridges were a hit, along with all the viewing huts. Hours of discussions and entertainment right here.
There were plenty of color splashes here and there to keep the color lover inside of me happy and content. Also I love flowers, dead or alive!
This sight also makes me heart so happy it wants to jump out of my chest. My babies and my man. What a beautiful sight!
