Kid Heaven, You Can Touch Everything!

We have fallen into this routine of impromptu Saturday adventures, and I have to admit I do love it.  I love getting up and being lazy all morning with a cup of tea and my husband as company, while the kids play peacefully by our feet.  After a morning of relaxing the need to be productive or do something productive kicks in, and that is when adventure happens.

It usually start our something like this

Me: Nate what do you guys want to do today?
Nate: Well I don't know, there is not much to do here, what did you have in mind?
Me: Well I don't know, that is why I asked you, you are the one from here.
Nate: I don't know

Then I stare at him in disbelief and pull out my phone to google phrases like "things to do in Midland, Texas," or "Hidden Gems in Midland, Texas," or my all time favorite "What to do in West Texas on a Saturday."

Then I look over at Nate with a smirk on my face and suggest some ideas.  He then looks at me and proceeds to tell me "Oh, I had no idea that existed, I hope it won't be lame." I just laugh at him, and we scramble to get every fed for lunch and then to head out on our adventure.

My kids love adventure, and whenever you don't know how to sell anything to them, you just throw the word adventure into the sentence and you are golden.

This week the winner of  my google gamble fell on the Museum of the South West, mostly the Children's Museum and the Planetarium.

The museum grounds are beautiful with sculptures, trees, and old buildings.  The mansion (we couldn't go in they were decorating for Christmas) is breathtaking from the outside.

The one section of the grounds had this very interesting display of old newspaper articles that just fascinated me.  Of course my tornadoes of fun would only tolerate the quite, and white walls for so long before they lose it, so I opted to leave instead of leaving my cool.  One day I will be able to read everything - oh how I miss that! Reading for hours on end in museum.

The hit was of course the Children's museum.  The beauty of this place is, everything is hands on, you can touch, you can place, you can ever run if you want to.  What is not to like about that? The kids loved it.  I was told the one section gets changed out every so often with new themes. I love all the art, and color, and the encouragement to learn and to imagine.

The rest of the museum is pretty much play time.  They have a really awesome set up to play restaurant, kitchen, grocery store, veterinarian,, or even a news reader.  All I can say is imagination is wonderful, and the kids had so much fun.  They were so creative and played for hours on end.  It was amazing!

He is simply one of the cutest kids ever!!

The Planetarium was so  much fun as well.  The kids loved all the bright colors standing out in the dark, all the fun little touchable thing.  They don't really understand the concept of space and different planets.  We will be working on that, and then we will definitely return.

I would highly recommend this place, it is inexpensive, and hours of fun.
