Legoland, Germany

As our time here in Germany and Europe is coming to an end we are trying to squeeze in some last minute day trips, in between packing, cleaning the house, organizing things, and out processing.

I have been wanting to go to Lego Land for some time, since I have only heard great things.  All my friends loved it, and their kids loved it as well.  I am sometimes apprehensive with it comes to "play parks" because my kids are always to little to go on any of the rides, so it feels like a waste of time and money.  Our first successful theme park story is Thomas Land,

My friend Monica assured me it was a great trip and that it is worth it even for little kids.  Since the kids were sick last week, I waited till they were better and then booked our trip last minute (like the day before we left, last minute) so not me, but it all worked out.

I am happy to say that we had a total blast, even though it took three hours to get there, it started to drizzle as soon as we entered the park, and of course Ian was overwhelmed at first, and a little bratty - but as soon as his attitude was adjusted, we had a great time.

My bother and dad were (and I think still are) Lego nuts.  I remember my brother building Lego cities when we were younger and he has quiet the collection.  After having kids, Nate and I have become Lego nuts as well, we love blocks and besides for books, Thomas the train things, and tea party treats, buying blocks is next on the list.  We are still in the duplo stages, but that is ok, there are so many fun ones.

In the middle of Lego Land, they have Lego village, and let me just say that words and pictures do this place no justice.  I have never in my life seen anything like this.  Nate and I have been blessed to see about 95% percent of these places in real live, and let me just say wow!!! The accuracy and detail in all the displays is absolutely amazing.  Millions and millions of small Lego blocks were used to great these amazing villages, places, and displays.  It was so amazing to see it.

The funnest part of the trip is that the kids could go on 98% of the rides.  Yes, that is right, Hayleigh chose not to go on the once that Nate or I couldn't go.  She has some attachment issues, but Ian was a trooper and went on several of the kid rides all by himself.  Seriously, when did he get so big?

We had such great family time, there were minimal break downs, and temper tantrums, everyone was happy most of the time, they listened most of the time, and Nate and I were not seriously stressed out or overwhelmed like on our cruise.

It was such a great environment for the kids.  There were plenty of ways for  them to release all the build up energy, and no one frown at us, or made me break out in cold sweat from stares.

Something else that was pretty impressive is all the Star Wars scenes and characters made our of Lego.  Sadly, I have never seen any of the movies, but I have seen some snippets here and there, and know some of the more popular characters, yes I am aware of the giant gap in my education, we will be working on that promptly, spare me the lecture.

Anyways my point is, it was freaken cool.  They made this space ship from the movie that used over five million lego blocks, how insane is that? My brother would have loved it, oh hi Charl, I love you!

Nate loves castle and knights, and med-evil things.  So it was only appropriate for us to stay in the knight's cottages (the castle was to expensive for last minute booking) and also to spend lots of time in the Knight's kingdom, we also had lunch there.  I just seemed fitting.  The two bigger roller coasters were also there, so while Ian and Nate did that, Hayleigh and I shopped around in the little gift store, and decided to get a cup of sweets.  It cheered her up, since she was too short for these rides.

I loved all the little details in this part of the park.

I loved all the little details in everything, and the different themes in the different areas of the park.  It was cool to see and marvel at all the Lego creations.  The creativity behind it all the creations, and decorations is really mind boggling.

The kids had fun identifying different things in the park, from pirates and animals in the water/ocean, to the dinosaurs, and all the African animals.  I loved that it was all learning opportunity, and that it was more then acceptable to touch almost everything - yes for texture learning and feeling.

Duplo land was another hit for the kids, a fun play ground to run and play, it also has a small water park area but it was closed on the first day since it was raining.  This was fun to just sit and catch our breath while the kids could climb, and run, and play to their hearts extend.

I know for a fact that Ian will be talking about the block land for a very long time.  Germany friends, if you have not yet been, just go it will be well worth it.  I am so  thankful for the opportunity and that everything worked out for us to go, to make our very last trip here in Europe one for the kids.  One where we didn't have to get stressed and worked up over.  What a great ending.

Happy Sunday!
