Idar-Oberstein, Germany

On Tuesday Nate and I celebrated six years of marriage.  Nate generally tries to take of our anniversary and we do something fun for the day.  It is hard over here in Germany to go to dinner without the kids (baby-sitting issues) so we incorporate fun kid things to do.  Let's face it, they are part of the celebration, because had we not said I do on that beautiful day, the kids would not be here today.

We had a relaxing morning, Nate made some breakfast, we played with the kids, and then headed out for our afternoon of fun.

Nate and I finally splurged and had spicy Indian food for lunch, we never get it spicy anymore because we always share with the kids, but we got them their own bowl of chicken mango curry to dip to their hearts extend and they loved it.

Even though the kid had some ants in their pants, it turned out be a nice little family lunch date.  Nate and I managed to have some conversation between the "excuse me mommy, I am talking to you," and the "please fill my water cup," and the "I hungry for saucy chicken and rice." I would not have had it any other way.  I am so in love with these kids, that sometimes it hurts.

And  then we decided on a whim to make our way to Idar-Oberstein.  I have been wanting to go here since we moved to Germany almost seven years ago.  It is famous for the church build into a rock, as well as gemstones.

I was somewhat disappointed in the church but everything else delivered.  We had a blast strolling around in a really cute little downtown area, letting the kids play and touch the water at the fountain, and just soaking it up.

Since Idar-Oberstein is known for gemstones, we decided to go hint for them.  We found this really neat little place were you pay a few euros, they hand a little shovel and a sift, and then you dig for gemstones.  It was a hit for the whole family.  We all loved it, and the kids got so excited every time they found a gemstone.

We actually spend a few hours just digging in the sand, laughing at the kids, and have such a great time.  It was euros well spent, and anniversary memories made.  I love including the kids and these special celebrations.  Oh, and they even let us make our gemstones shiny, with this old rock shiner.  It was great.

An anniversary, well spent.

I can't wait to see what the next 94 years have in store for us.  Thank you for such a precious, and beautiful life Nate, I am blessed to share it with you.  I love you so much.

Happy anniversary.
