Our First Weekend In South Africa

We had our first full weekend here at in South Africa, and it was fun one.  Even though it is still raining, luckily it stopped a little in between activities so we could have some fun.

Saturday the kids and I joined my mom and went to the Hazeldean Food Market, and what a lovely food market.  They had the most interesting food selections, and need little booths.  I regret to inform you that I was unable to take any pictures, and that we bought eggs, feta cheese, and cookies [which I only bought as a bribe for the kids - yes bad mama award] and headed out.  The reason you might ask, since everyone knows I love some good food.... well Ian has this personal issue with bees and flies, and like all well respected food lovers know, food attracts these flying things.  My poor Ian was so traumatized by the experience, and I was so unnerved by his shrill screams every three steps and the glares from everyone that we decided to just ditch the place.  Maybe it all has to do with the fact that he got stung by a bee, three days prior, who knows.  I just know this mama has constant damp skin when we leave the house, and I can't control the bugs - hello Africa!!

I am so happy that we came home to sunshine, and beautiful weather, so we played outside watch oupa and ouma work in the garden, and got spent some quality time with the kids god parents!! I love Louis and Charlotte so much and spending time with the is always a blast, I am so blessed to know them.  I was so impressed that the kids remembered them for their visit to Germany last June, and Hayleigh, oh my sweet Hayleigh was enchanted by Charlotte that she snuggled her and sat with her all evening.  It made my heart burst with joy.

Apparently oupa's chair is the best seat in the house.

I am lover off food, and so we gather all of our things and headed out on Sunday after church to visit another food market, stop at the Hartbeespoort Dam that has been overflowing due to all the rain, and had some lunch with my parents.  It was fun and slow paste outing, just what we wanted and needed.  The kids were awesome, thank goodness they are adjusting to everything being so different.  They had everything from fresh produce to homemade yoghurt, bread, jam, and basically you name it and they had it.  Ian loved pointing out and naming all the different fruits and veggies, while Hayleigh frantically waved and greeted every single person we passed, my girl knows how to make people smile!

Ian's worst nightmare "we are dedicating this habitat to bees, birds, and you" hahaha

Death in a can? More then likely, but I could not resist!

The weather held up beautifully all day and the rain stayed away till the evening.  We made it home in plenty of time to play outside, have a quick swim in oupa's pool, play with oupa and ouma, and just relax.  Ian and Hayeligh loved playing in the water, don't let the pictures fool you, the water was so cold, and Hayleigh lasted about five minutes, Ian on the other hand had to dragged out of the pool when his little body and lips started to turn blue.  Thank you rain for making the water cold...

I am happy to say that our first full weekend in South Africa was a great success.  Everyone had fun, we got to spend some time with my parents, the kids did pretty good, and we created a whole arsenal of new memories, captured in pictures for photo books.

And just like that the weekend is over, everyone went back to work, and we have a new week ahead of us.  Hopefully the rain will stop soon, so we can soak up the sunshine.

Happy Monday!

Stay tuned for more South African adventures.
