I am little disappointing in mother nature, too much rain and wetness, I have been dreaming about the African sun for months now, and what a let down when it rains on the way home from the airport, and then it continues to rain the whole first week.
My mama has been home with us for the first couple of days of settling in, to make sure we are squared away, that we know were everything is, and have everything we need.
We used our time together to go to lunch, eat ice cream and shop. The first two happened, the last one not so much, between whiny kids and one sweaty and overwhelmed mama, my skin is constantly damp, gross I know, but these kids know how to make me sweat. I was also so disappointed to see that my favourite ice cream place closed down! I knew I should have eaten it one more time the last time we were home.
We have enjoyed playing outside in between the rain, whenever we see a ray of sunshine poking trough a cloud, we drop everything and rush outside. My poor kids, have not been exposed to whole lot of bugs and beetles in Germany, so my mom's garden is a heaven for little creatures. Ian is not impressed, and have informed me on more then one occasion, and may I also add very confidently that a spider ate his nose.
They are weary of the wet grass, and in Ian's word "I afraid of the grass," why I have no idea but we are working on it very slowly.
Ian is a super creative little boy, he loves anything to do with color so amid the grey raining sky we created some rainbows on the pavement. Hours of coloring fun.
When the rain comes, we huddle inside and come up with things to do, I didn't bring anything but a few trains, and two cars. My mom and her sweet friend got the kids a bunch of fun things to play with and do. For farm yard fun, to puzzles, to books, to coloring, to play-doh, to block building, and tea parties, There is no shortage on entertainment, we also have the added treat of TV since we don't have TV in our house in Germany [well we have an actual TV but we don't have any cable or satellite.]
I am so excited about all the food that I have missed that I can indulge in right now - at a price of course, I am sure it will really be a moment on my lips and forever on my hips, but luckily I have a active kids who keeps me on my toes. I am so happy I stumbled on these while out with my mama, We call them "ystervarkies" and they are delicious. Soon I will create my own version and put it on the blog.
And our favourite time of the day is in the afternoon when my parents come home from work. They will take the majority of their leave when Nate joins us in a few weeks, but right now they have days here and there, which is fine with us because it gives us the opportunity to visit with other people without feeling guilty. Anyways the kids get so excited when they walk in the house, their expressions are priceless, and oupa is all that they care about for most of the evening. I love watching that sweet picture unfold every afternoon.
I am so excited for the weekend, and two whole days of fun with my parents.
Happy Friday!
