Gingerbread Fun

I just love the Christmas season, and everything that comes with it.  I do know the true meaning [that Jesus Christ was born]  of Christmas, and Nate and I work hard to instill that in our children.  With that being said I don't believe there is anything wrong with having fun, starting new family traditions, and doing fun things with your kids.

As the kids get older, we still add little family traditions to our Christmas season.  This year we added gingerbread men, a gingerbread house, and a train [from last year that I totally forgot about - and I am happy about that.]  I am happy we waited a year, Ian had so much fun this year.  He is old enough to manage it himself, and enjoy it.  Sister on the other hand was a hot mess of destruction.

I am a organized freak [and even though people give me crap for it, I am embracing it].  I can managed and deal with anything organized, besides organized chaos.  Let me just say that Hayleigh is brilliant at creating organized chaos, and I think she does it to get a rise out of me.

Everything was going great, we split up, Nate with Ian for a little while, and mama and Hayleigh.  Everything was going great until Hayleigh decided that she had enough of this bussiness [3 1/2 minutes into the project] and that smearing icing and stealing candy to secretly eat is way more fun.

I had fun watching meticulously place all the little candies on the precise spots.  I think he has way to many of my genes, my little mini me.  He kept talking and talking, telling us all about Santa's favorite steam engine.  It made my heart beam, I love his little stories, I love watching him grow, develop, and discover.    Watching him transform before my eyes from baby to toddler, and on to little boy has been such a blast.

After a while Hayleigh really had enough since she was so wired from all the sugar [I decided to just buy the kits with all the added junk, since we weren't suppose to eat it = that theory failed] - Hayleigh was so high and sugar and food coloring she was out of control - kind of funny to watch but it just feeds to thesis that all that stuff is bad for you and it affects kids - anyways back to the point.  Nate contained the weird animal she developed in - a mixture of a dinosaur and snake, while Ian and I had some one of one time, and decorated the gingerbread mean.  I let him do whatever he wanted, just squirting icing, and encouraging him to so whatever.  He was beaming with delight.

The house becoming more and more magical every day, as we add new crafts and handmade decorations to the things we have made over the years.  We added our lovely gingerbread creations as a dining room table display, and it would be a lie if I told you I didn't walk in there every so often just to look at it and take in the sweetness of memories being made.

Happy winter days!
