Without further ado, enjoying the Christmas things.
#1 Christmas Cards.
Every year I love putting together our Christmas card, from finding someone to take our annual family pictures, to designing our card, to mailing the envelopes. I love how it all comes together - sitting on the couch watching a Christmas movies and addressing envelopes, thinking of special things about the family. I love it all.
#2 Gingerbread fun.
This was a new event this year, and we are definitely making it a family tradition. I mean who doesn't like getting a sugar high from pure corn syrup and food dyes? I just love the family togetherness, no tv, just Christmas music and stories. Pure bliss.
#3 Polka dots and striped Christmas pants.
I love little people legs, weird I know [well let me just say I like my little people's legs], but I think baby legs are the cutest thing ever, that combined with leggings and striped jammie pants, it makes me smile.
#4 Book advent calendar.
I love books, I am sucker for books. So found this great idea, how about making a book advent calendar, instead of candy or junk filled advent calendar because a. I don't want my kids to eat candy for breakfast, and b.) I don't feel like having junk all over the house and we all know I am most likely going to toss it in the following days. Throughout the year I collect Christmas books [I had fun picking and choosing some classics] and that way we don't have one big bill come November.
#5 Opening our Advent Calendar books.
It has become a ritual in our house. Every morning after breakfast we huddle in the teepee and open the magical story for the day. I love the excitement, and the smiley faces.
I love having these new books accessible to all so come in green basket. The kids love walking over picking out books, and we read them sometimes more then once, depending on their moods. Hayleigh is getting more and more into books every day!
I like watching movies and TV. In recent years I really liked the idea of filling our December up with Christmas/Winter movies - especially for the kids. It has been nice getting an occasional break from Thomas the Train.
I love crafty things, so I decided to involve the kids, we usually pick out two little art projects that has to do with the an holiday or season. I make sure to pick things that we already have all the supplies for, and whala - you have sweet little reindeer to display. The kids like making things, and are always intrigued with what we are doing.
#9 Making our own Christmas decorations.
Christmas decorations are so expensive and when you have little ones, things may be at risk of breaking. I don't really like fancy, don't get me wrong it is beautiful with all the light and glass balls, but it just isn't really us. I love homey and crafty - so combining the two - you have sweet little garlands made from paper and water color paint. Also it is great little project for toddlers.
I would love to one day one a Willow Tree set, but for now I love these sweet little handmade sets. They bend in different ways {like Mary can hold baby Jesus, and the donkey can sit or stand} the kids like playing with it, some days they fight over baby Jesus. I love not having to worry about anything breaking, and incorporating the real meaning for Christmas.
Go and enjoying some of the Christmas magic!
